| Information that might help you get off to a good start with your new Pug!!! |
| We do NOT recommend giving any bones except for NYLABONE. They like a good sized bone. |
| They have been fed "Pedigree Healthy Start" but you can feed a good reliable brand of growth good (puppy food) until they are at least 10 months old. |
| They have been fed three times a day and you will find the dog will probably cut its own meals back. You can give a snack (eg. puppy milk bones) before bedtime.. |
| The puppy has been getting fed at 8:00 am, 4:00 pm, 10:00 pm. The 3 feedings should be kept up for a month or so until you notice that your pup is cutting it’s own meals back. |
| DO NOT FEED PEOPLE FOOD. DO NOT FEED AT THE TABLE. If you like you can add vegetables to the dog food (no potatoes) in the dog’s own dish. |
| Use stainless steel bowls or ceramic as plastic tends to take the black out of their noses. |
| DO NOT PLAY TUG-OF-WAR with the puppy this will pull out the jaw and it is very soft until they are full grown. Play fetch instead. They are very bright. |
| Check the puppy’s toenails and keep them down on a regular basis. Most pet stores have a selection of clippers and quick-stop. Get the pup used to having them filed. Try it when they are tired and being cuddled on your lap. We use a cordless dremel tool to sand down their nails and find this the best way to keep the nails short. |
| Pugs are usually very healthy and active. They want to please you and are easy to train. They love walks. Walk the puppy on your left side if you plan on Showing. |
| Pugs are very sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Make sure you never let your pug get too hot. Do not take for long walks in hot or cold weather. If you dog gets to hot and throws up you should cool him down and contact your vet immediately. |
